Shrimp cocktail
If we have to describe in a few words this cocktail with shrimp, they are: retro, nostalgic, liked by all, spectacular and memorable. What more do we need to start a lavish celebration. Maybe a bottle of chilled premium champagne or prosecco, but I leave that to your imagination.
Characteristic of this cocktail is the hit sauce Marie Rose. The sauce was popularized in the 1960s by British celebrity chef Fanny Cradock.
Ingredients and preliminary preparation:
Start with Marie Rose sauce. Its easy version is prepared by mixing:
- 3 tbsp. mayonnaise
- 3 tbsp. yogurt
- 1 tbsp. ketchup
- sip of Worcester sauce
- sip of brandy
- lemon juice
- black peppercorn
The accent in the dish will be king prawns.
You will need 8 pieces. Cook them in a pan with a little olive oil and 2 large cloves of garlic. For garlic, use a garlic press, so you will get the maximum flavor for the dish. Cook the shrimp on both sides until they get an appetizing coral color. Set aside, you will need them in the end.
For the base of the shrimp cocktail use:
- 200 g cooked and peeled small shrimp
- 180 g of smoked salmon
- 1 avocado
- 1/2 cucumber
- 2 tomatoes
- about 10 fresh mint leaves
- a handful of watercress
- 1/2 iceberg lettuce
Preparation:
Finely chop the iceberg, peeled avocado, tomatoes and cucumber. Divide between four cups, plates or bowls. Add a little mint and watercress to each cup. Put a row of shrimp and salmon and pour Marie Rose sauce. Sprinkle with a pinch of black pepper. Add 2 king prawns to each serving.
Serve with a slice of lemon. A little bread spread with butter is also suitable for the dish.
