Fried squid – the symbol of the Greek summer

Fried squid

May, and usually and earlier is the time of the year when the beaches of Greece begin to attract me with incredible power. There is almost no night in which dreams do not take me to a coastal tavern in Thassos, Halkidiki or Corfu. Typical Greek specialties such as fried squid, grilled octopus and fresh fish are the main culprit for this.

Ingredients for 5-6 servings of fried squid:

  • 1 kg of squid
  • 1 tea cup Frying oil
  • the juice of 2 lemons
  • Flour
  • salt and pepper


Clean and wash the squid well. Season with salt and pepper. Leave them in a bowl with a sieve for a while. Sprinkle with flour and drop into hot oil. Squids are ready when they get an appetizing golden color on both sides. Remove them with a suitable spoon and place them into the dish in which you will serve. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Serve the squid hot.
