Chocolate fondue with fruits and cream

Delicious chocolate fondue

What better concept for a kids afternoon party than a chocolate fondue with all kinds of fruits. Maybe you as parents, know that there is hardly another clever way to get your child to eat fruits. With my little son, I don’t have these problems, we are already circling predatory around trees, attacking the plums that are not yet ripeChocolate fondue, and secretly hiding under the cherries in the yard, hoping to be eaten soon. But …, there are some slightly different kids, like my culinary half Lilly (11 years old) who doesn’t eat fruits so easily.

Years ago, inspired by one book, we organized ourselves a „Monster Party“ where we cooked all sorts of things. The recipes were more than „Horror Romantic“ and I can say quite tasty. Among those recipes was the recipe for marsh from melted chocolate, which we transformed in a classic chocolate fondue.
So, last week a girlfriend gave me her new ceramic pot for making hot chocolate and we started cooking. (Thanks to Rady for the inspiration.)

What you need:

If you have a ceramic fondue pot with specially made metal skewers for fruit stabbing, it’s the easiest thing to do, but if you don’t have one, don’t let that get you down. You can melt the chocolate in a water bath or in the microwave oven and pour it into a ceramic bowl with thicker walls to keep the chocolate warm for longer. For fruit stabbing, use the most ordinary wooden skewers.

For 8 servings of chocolate fondue you will need:

  • 350 g milk or black chocolate (break the blocks wholesale)
  • 1 cup of liquid cream
  • a pinch of salt if desired
  • fruits such as strawberries, bananas, kiwi, apples, pears, dried apricots, candied ginger … in general, any fruit you like and have at home.

Heat the cream, but don’t let it boil. Add the chocolate and stir until melted. Cut the fruit to a size that is convenient for you to eat. Punch a fruit, dip it in the melted chocolate and eat immediately with pleasure. If you do not use liquid cream or at least a few drops of olive oil or butter and melt the chocolate directly in a ceramic fondue pan (like the one in the movie) your chocolate is likely to burn.

How to enrich the taste.

If you are preparing a chocolate fondue for an evening rather than a children’s party, add one or two tablespoons of Baileys or other favorite alcohol such as Grand Marnier, Amaretto, Kirsch or dark rum. 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and a pinch of hot pepper will make the chocolate and your evening with Mexican taste. I always add 1 tbsp. butter for more taste. Vanilla seeds, a drop of espresso or a teaspoon of mint extract can work wonders, and grated citrus peel like grapefruit or orange will give a fruity sensation. In addition to the traditional brown chocolate, you can also try a white one for special occasions. As you can see the options are many and which of which more delicious.
