A flying piece of paper with the handwriting of the past provoked me to collect recipes from old books and write them down with new ink for culinary history. These favorite recipes of the whole family are inspired by the old notebook with recipes of grandmother Lilia Belyashka from Svishtov.
Grandmother Lily preserved this characteristic of our Danube cities spirit of aristocracy and the desire of even ordinary people to always be neat and well-dressed; men always in suits, and women with hairstyles. This in the next generations, born and raised in communist years, unfortunately disappeared. I remember how she served different pastries, “Aero-Cognac” or white jam. I am happy that her recipe book is preserved. I think they are typical urban recipes from the Danube area. Some may be from my great-grandmother’s time.
